Amy Cressy is a proud South Bend native who graduated from LaSalle High School in 1993. She went on to become a double Hoosier with degrees in Journalism from IU-Bloomington and law from IU-Indianapolis.
In 2003, Amy started as an intern with the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office and earned a position as a deputy prosecutor. Beginning in the Traffic and Misdemeanor Division, she worked her way to the Major Crimes division where Amy specialized in prosecuting illegal drugs, guns and gang cases. Amy has prosecuted every level of criminal case from traffic offenses to gang related murders. Her career includes four years spent embedded with the St. Joseph County Drug Investigation Unit which targeted the most violent drug traffickers and overdose fatalities.
In 2022, Amy was promoted to Chief Deputy Prosecutor and Chief of Staff. She has the unique combination of administrative and courtroom skills, and the experience required to protect the people of St. Joseph County.
As an experienced prosecutor, Amy understands the impact crime has on victims and their families. Amy knows what it takes to prosecute the most dangerous criminals and win. Her community and the pain it causes victims. She believes that compassion and accountability are both necessary in the pursuit of justice.
